E BAROKTHEGREAT (Italy) follows an artistic research in the fields of music and choreography. Led by the dancer - choreographer Sonia Brunelli and the musician Leila Gharib, BAROKTHEGREAT focuses on performing arts giving a special attention to sound and movement.
In 2008, after their first studio presentation at Sujet à Vif/Festival d’Avignon in collaboration with the london based director Simon Vincenzi, the group made its debut at the Grand Theatre of Groningen with the performance Barok. In 2009 the group proposed Wrestling - intuitions about the world waiting to become an established construction, a special project commissioned by Xing in the frame of F.I.S.Co in collaboration with international musicians and performers. In 2010 BAROKTHEGREAT won the italian prize Mondo and is selected for Marathon of the Unexpected, a new section dedicated to the most experimental experiences in the field of dance, in the frame of 7th International Festival of Contemporary Dance of the Venice Biennale.
I BAROKTHEGREAT unisce ricerca musicale e coreografica. Diretto dalla danzatrice - coreografa Sonia Brunelli e dalla musicista Leila Gharib, BAROKTHEGREAT agisce nel più vasto bacino delle performing arts con una particolare attenzione verso la materialità del suono e la radice mentale del movimento.
Nel 2008 crea Barok, nato da una performance site-specific per il progetto Sujets à Vif/Festival d'Avignon in collaborazione con il regista londinese Simon Vincenzi, per poi esordire come spettacolo al Grand Theatre di Groningen. Nel 2009 Xing gli commisiona per F.I.S.Co Wrestling - intuizioni sul mondo in attesa che diventino una costruzione compiuta, happening sulla lotta che ha alternato spettacolari scontri tra musicisti e performer internazionali di diverso orientamento artistico. Nel 2010 BAROKTHEGREAT viene premiato al festival Mondo e viene selezionato per Marathon of the Unexpected, nuova sezione dedicata alle esperienze più sperimentali nel campo della danza contemporanea, all’interno del 7° Festival Internazionale di Danza Contemporanea della Biennale di Venezia.
